Personal branding photos have become one of the best strategies you can use to attract your ideal client. This is your chance to show them why they should want to work with you. So, if your pictures feel awkward and stiff, your clients might be a little more hesitant to sign on. Don’t worry, though. I’m here to help you so you can have the best photos possible! As a Baltimore and Washington DC branding photographer, I spend a lot of time working with clients so they can have pics that best represent them. Here’s how to feel more relaxed in your personal brand photos.
One of the best ways to feel relaxed for your personal branding photos is with the way you dress. Try to pick clothes that will move with you. Things like flowy dresses or drapey pants are always ideal. And remember, comfort can come from total confidence. If there’s an outfit that helps you feel like yourself, bring it to your session.
If you are standing still for too long, you are instantly going to wind up in your head, overthinking each pose. That’s why I always encourage my personal branding photos clients to keep moving. After each pic, walk a few steps or look different ways. You can even twirl and dance so you can add the appearance of motion into your pics.
If you want to create a feeling of joy throughout your pictures, one of the best things you can do is literally laugh out loud. Yes, it’s probably going to feel a little awkward at first, but just keep with it. The more you laugh, the more authentic it becomes, and eventually, you are going to feel so happy your smile will be genuine.
We all know the stiff poses where we just don’t know what to do with our hands. The easiest solution? Move them around! If you are showing off what you do, bring props. You can hold a mug, draw plans for a project, read a book, or even just scroll your phone. Bonus: this gives you the perfect excuse to schedule a mani before your personal branding photos!
Music is a pretty powerful tool that will easily take your session to the next level. Think about the songs where, the moment you turn them on, you instantly feel 10-feet-tall. Whether you gravitate toward Beyonce or late 90s pop, create a playlist that you can throw on so you can feel at ease.
Props are not only going to give you something to do with your hands during personal branding photos, but they are also going to show your clients your creative process. Think about the things that make your job a reality. Are you a baker trying to grow your client base? Then grab a mixing bowl and a whisk and work through a simple recipe. Do you spend all day helping clients find their dream houses? Grab your phone and head to the spot where you spend most of your time working. This is your chance to tell the story of what you do while also taking all the stiffness out of your pics.
